I was listening to Ken Hovind on YouTube. He is a scientist who speaks about the errors of evolution. Although I don’t understand everything he says (and he talks fast), I recommend him. His podcasts offer good reasons to believe the Bible’s account. Your faith may not be challenged, but the faith of your kids or grandchildren could benefit from his arguments.
For example, an evolutionist looks at the Grand Canyon and purports that a little water (Colorado River) over millions of years scoured the rock walls. Creationists believe a massive amount of water (Noah’s Flood) over a short period of time formed the Canyon. A couple of years after Mount St. Helens erupted in 1980, the ice again melted and rushed down rivers. Deep canyons were carved out, dubbing the site as the Small Grand Canyon. Instead of taking millions of years, deep canyons were formed in days.
- Big Bang – Most evolutionists, if not all, believe the Big Bang theory. Hovind asks the simple question, for which evolution has no answer, “Where did the exploding materials come from?”
- Constants – Hovind asks, “If evolution is true, then why are the laws of the universe not evolving, but remain exact and unchanging?” It is another display of the orderliness of God’s creation.
- Geologic Columns – The geologic time periods are proposed to be a rock record of earth’s history. James Parkinson first presented a map of the geologic columns in 1815 (and made popular by Charles Lyell), long before radioactivity and carbon-dating were discovered. Therefore, there existed no way to determine the ages of the different strata in the column. The ages of the rock were assumed to be millions of years old. Pictures of different animals are often included, supposedly having evolved during different periods of time.
However, these columns are based on the assumption of uniformitarianism, the idea that earth’s history has progressed at a uniform rate, and dirt accumulated slowly over millions of years, forming distinct time periods that reveal the age of the earth. Therefore, the evolutionist does not account for Noah’s Flood, when many of the changes to the surface of the earth were made. As a result, those accepting evolution have been led to believe the age of the earth to be 4.5 billion years.
Evolutionists have no answer when human artifacts are dug up in the “wrong” layer, ages assumed to be millions of years before man. For example, in Oklahoma in 1912, a clay pot was discovered in a vein of coal thought to be 300 million years old using the uniform geologic tables. The evolutionist will not admit his timeframe could be wrong.
- Fossils – Fossils only tell us the animal is dead. It reveals nothing about itself in life. I found it humorous when the leading authority on dinosaurs tried to tell us the colors of a dinosaur and what its young ate, all from a fossil. Also, all we know from a fossil, other than it being dead, is that it was buried quickly. Most animals that die do not form fossils; they die and decompose. Only those buried quickly are later found as fossils. Also, the evolutionist must come up with some wild theories to explain why fossils are found on mountain peaks, even atop Mt. Everest.
- Carbon-dating – Willard Libby proposed in the 1940s radiocarbon dating as a method for determining the age of organic material. Carbon-dating is presented as the “proof” of the age of animal fossils, but it is not an exact science. Several years come up in testing, and evolutionists choose the date that best coincides with their assumptions. They don’t like to reveal that testing of living creatures has determined them to be thousands of years dead!
Hovind has more to say, but these are some things that hopefully whet your appetite. The choices are clear. Evolution attempts to explain things without any involvement of God. Creationists take the Bible and Jesus’ words at face value, accepting the fact that God has been involved every step of the way. The road of evolution offers no hope, whereas the path of God is dotted with hope, mercy, grace, and love all along the way.
Both evolution and creation take faith to believe because no one was there to see the start of the universe or the Flood. But the Bible reveals that one Witness did see it; God was present to witness both events. God does not only want you to discount evolutionary teaching, but to be reconciled to Him through accepting Jesus.
