Clackamas County Commissioner Sonya Fischer

Clackamas County Chair Tootie Smith throws down gauntlet,  125 Citizens answer back- Citizens who participate in government are not ‘Insurrectionists’!

 We the People demand her immediate retraction of false and damaging statements and a return to in-person meetings
On February 9, 2022 the following demand letter was delivered to the Clackamas County Board of Directors office:

Issue: January 13th Commission Meeting Proceedings and Demand of Open In-Person Regularly Scheduled Clackamas County Commission Meetings

Clackamas County Commissioner Paul Savas
Clackamas County Commissioner Martha Schrader

On January 13th, at the County Commission Meeting, with nearly a capacity audience ready to participate in the People’s government, Commission Chair Tootie Smith cancelled the meeting on a whim, out of spite for the people who were there to provide voice to their representatives.

On January 14th Pamplin Media published an article in the Portland Tribune, with the headline and lead;

“UNMASKED CROWD OCCUPIES CLACKAMAS COUNTY MEETING ROOM” -Chair Tootie Smith moves to virtual format after group refuses to comply with state administrative rules. “Clackamas County commissioners’ Jan. 13 meeting was abruptly halted and moved online after a large crowd refused to follow state and county COVID-19 safety requirements…

Clackamas County Commissioner, Mark Shull

”We the People reject this as an outright lie, as we did as Ms. Smith unequivocally demanded. The entire audience was masked and compliant for the full nineteen minutes until Ms. Smith halted the meeting.

On January 18th Chairperson Smith upped the accusations with a personal Op-Ed which contained these charges;

“While chairing the Board of Clackamas County Commissioners meeting on January 14, I was met with a group of individuals whose goal was to disrupt normal business proceedings.

They removed masks, called names, and wielded accusations at me and my fellow commissioners……

While I disagree with Governor Brown’s management of the pandemic and I have told her so, I am not willing to jeopardize my county’s budget to fulfill the desires of disrupters who yelled,screamed and threatened violence upon your local governing body and staff.”

We the People reject all of these statements as outright lies. NO ONE screamed or threatened violence towards Ms. Smith,or her fellow commissioners.It’s all on record and available to anyone who wishes to view the events of the evening. NONE OF THIS EVER HAPPENED!

On January 18th the accusations grew with more lies in an article from Pamplin Media Group with the headline…

TAKE THE DAIS’ THREAT REPORTED DURING TENSE CLACKAMAS MEETING

“Clackamas County Chair Tootie Smith on Tuesday addressed her decision to halt a Jan. 13 in-person meeting after the “boisterous” crowd’s refusal to follow county and state requirements, claiming to have later received a security report of crowd members’ intentions to “take the dais and oust the sitting commissioners.

“We the People not only reject this as an outright lie, but a complete fabrication as Ms. Smith moved further in developing a narrative that did not exist in order to justify her actions.

And then on Friday, January 21st, the pièce de resistance in multiple publications, this from KOIN 6…

CLACKAMAS COUNTY COMMISSION GOES ONLINE AFTER UNMASKED ‘INSURRECTION’

And this from all the way up in Spokane, the “Spokesman-Review” …
