Opinion: Parents’ Rights in Education, Political Action Committee, (PRIE PAC), Proudly Endorses Christine Drazen for Oregon Governor

Suzanne Gallagher, Parents Rights In Education

PARENTS’ RIGHTS IN EDUCATION (PRIE) is committed to valuing students, empowering parents and supporting communities to secure great educations for public school children in America. A tax-deductible non-profit organization established in 2011, PRIE has inspired parents all over the nation and beyond to restore parents’ rights in education.

PRIE welcomes all students, families, and community members who care about scholastic success for K-12 public school students. Though PRIE families come from all different backgrounds and from across the political spectrum, we are all united by our love of learning and the possibilities for success in life available to all students through scholarship.

The Oregon Governor as the Superintendent of Public Instruction (a change made by the legislature in 2011, and signed into law by Governor John Kitzhaber, ORS 326.300) appoints the Deputy Superintendent of Public Instruction, who manages the Oregon Department of Education, and the members of the state Board of Education.

Drazen will raise K-12 public school graduation standards by bringing the public school mission back to academic achievement.  Oregon’s high school graduation rate consistently ranks in the bottom three worst in the nation. Student achievement rates continually lag behind the national average.  Now, Oregon schools are focused on teaching kindergartners progressive political agendas, instead of learning how to be self sufficient citizens. Oregon students should be taught about the success and opportunities created by capitalism, the most successful economic system known to man, instead of hate for free enterprise and innovation supported by Black Lives Matter, the National Education Association Caucus, and Critical Race Theory.

Parents and guardians have been marginalized and intimidated by local school boards to accept policy decisions pertaining to curriculum, health care mandates, and more. Local Oregon school districts must once again be empowered to listen to and work with parents and community members, instead of bowing to state edicts. The parent-child relationship and parents’ rights to raise their children according to their values must be restored.

Parents’ Rights In Education, Political Action Committee is confident Drazen will take the tough steps necessary to deliver on the following broad goals.

  • Focus on academic accountability and individual student success.
  • Keep politics out of the classroom and teach our students how to think, not what to think.
  • Expand access to school choice, including restoring open enrollment and supporting charter schools and magnet schools.
  • Restore basic graduation requirements that Governor Brown and the legislature eliminated.
  • Increase classroom time and enrichment opportunities to strengthen learning and improve graduation rates.
  • Require curriculum transparency so that anyone who wants access to this information can easily review it.

PRIE PAC Board of Directors are confident Christine Drazen is the best choice for families, and the future of Oregon!
