Q & A Candidate Forum Featuring: Candidate Lori Chavez-DeRemer, Congress, Oregon’s 5th Congressional District

Lori Chavez-DeReamer, Candidate, Congress Oregon’s 5th Congressional District

1. In a few sentences, state what position you are running for and why you believe you are the best candidate to win this election?

My name is Lori Chavez-DeRemer and I am running to be the next Congresswoman in Oregon’s 5th congressional district. I believe I am the only candidate in this race with a proven track record. As mayor of Happy Valley, I fully-funded the police, kept our taxes low, and built a veterans’ memorial to support our heroes. I am a mom who put my kids through the education system and will support a parents’ bill of rights on school choice.

2. What are the three most critical issues you plan to tackle once elected?

(A) The economy (specifically inflation) is a top issue in the district. The rise in gas prices, groceries, and utilities has skyrocketed under the Biden administration. At the federal level, we must cut reckless spending, promote the free market, and become energy independent to get back on the right track.
(B) We must secure our border and stop illegal immigration. With the influx of drugs and crime, every city has now become a border city. We must finish building the fall and fully fund our border patrol with the resources they need to stop the cartels from infiltrating our communities.
(C) We have to fully fund our police and put pressure on the DOJ to prosecute those that have committed violent crimes in our cities.

3. When faced with difficult and complex issues in drafting public policy, what main factors will you consider when making decisions for the community at large?

As a mayor, we heard from the public and active community members in how we implemented or made difficult policy decisions. As the next Congresswoman, I will look to experts and hear from them on specific bills or policymaking proposals and how they can be impacted in Oregon’s 5th congressional district. I will always make decisions on how it will make a positive impact on Oregonians in the 5th congressional district.

4. Do you believe voter fraud exists in the State of Oregon? If so, would you advocate for a state forensic audit in elections where questions about election integrity may exist?

The fact that there are millions of Americans that doubt the integrity of the 2020 election should concern all of us. According to the Heritage Foundation, Oregon is ranked 48th in the nation in election integrity. In 2018, when I ran for state representative, a Democrat-funded organization called Defend Oregon was caught cheating by failing to turn in ballots before Election Day. The group was faced with record fines. I am in favor of forensic audits of our elections. The two things right now to secure our elections: Pass Voter ID laws and ban ballot harvesting to prevent any further irregularities.

5. Please state your position regarding the issue of Right to Life and abortion.

I am anti-abortion and believe the abortion laws in Oregon are extreme. I am against late-term abortion and taxpayer-funded abortions. I will always be on the side of life in Congress.

6. Fun facts and Trivia: What is your favorite meal, vacation spot and favorite all time movie?

Food- I love Mexican food. My grandma’s tamale recipe is the best, and I make 200-300 every Christmas. Travel- In America, it’s a close tie between DC and NYC. Overseas, it is Italy. My first time there was for my 20th anniversary. It’s now a special place for my husband and me.
Movie- for romance it’s Under the Tuscan Sun, for comedy it’s Bridesmaids, for action it’s Top Gun.

7. Bonus question: do you have a motivational quote you would like to share?

“When you know better, you do better.”
-Mom
