Opinion: Roberts the right candidate for Clackamas County Chair

Shirley Morgan

An elected leader who serves the people is one who sets policy, conducts public meetings, and provides administrative services. They establish long-term visions, create strategic plans, then collaboratively lead and empower others towards that shared goal. They must also give special attention to the complex financial limits of the services they provide, as well as seek support from voters for long-term debts incurred.

The current Chair has circumvented voter approval without public hearings regarding the costs and plans to fund the building of a new $313 million dollar Court House and has instead approved a 30-year public-private partnership with a Canadian investment firm, even though its inflating costs will require “drastic” cuts to all County departments to help fund the Court House, impacting core services.

It’s time for a leader who understands the difference between robbing Peter to pay Paul and a balanced budget before incurring debt.

Roberts is the right candidate because he has earned the trust of the voters through his public safety leadership skills as the former Clackamas County Sheriff for over four terms. He is recognized for his talent and qualifications, has a skill and knowledge that has developed over time, and has already achieved and produced results in Clackamas County.

Craig Roberts

I am voting for Craig Roberts for Clackamas County Chair, because his past experience gives voters the assurance that we can trust him to lead us into a strong financially secure future.
